Fat Transfer and Injections

What is Involved in Fat Transfer?

If you’re tired of dealing with thin lips, sunken cheeks, or bags and dark circles beneath the eyes, fat grafting may be exactly what you need to help restore a more youthful fullness to your face or hands.

Fat transfer procedures are sometimes called fat grafting or fat injections. Whatever name is used, it refers to a surgical technique that removes fat tissue from one body area, then transferring it to a different area, usually to augment or improve contours.

Sometimes used to enhance volume during breast augmentation or breast reconstruction, it’s also frequently used to replace lost volume in the face or hands.

How Much Does Fat Transfer Cost?

The cost of fat transfer differs from one client to the next, depending on the extent of the procedure along with a number of variables that can contribute to the overall cost.

Dr. Contogiannis will thoroughly discuss the specifics of your case during your initial consultation and should be able to give you a more accurate cost assessment and breakdown at that time. Most cosmetic surgeries are not covered by insurance except for functional or medical reasons, so it’s likely you’ll be responsible for full payment for your fat grafting procedure.

In an effort to keep our procedures as affordable as possible for our clients, we’re pleased to be able to offer financing as an option for your fat transfer treatment through Alphaeon® or CareCredit®.

How Does Fat Transfer Work?

Fat transfer is a relatively simple procedure. Fat tissue from one part of the body is removed, using either liposuction or syringe, depending on how much fat is needed. The fatty tissue is then processed to remove extra fluid, leaving a concentration of fat cells that are then strategically injected into targeted areas that need contouring or more volume.

What Are the Benefits of Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer offers many benefits and most clients are thrilled with their results. Common benefits seen include:

  • No allergy risk because you’re using the body’s own tissue
  • Twice as much contouring – excess fat is removed from one area and volume is added to another area
  • Long-lasting, natural-looking results
  • Can be combined with other procedures, including facelifts
  • Minimally invasive

Am I a Good Candidate for Fat Transfer?

Most adults with good general health and reasonable expectations will usually be good candidates for fat transfer procedures.

Dr. Contogiannis will help you align your expectations with what’s attainable and realistic for your specific circumstances, ensuring you’ll be delighted with your results.

What Can I Expect During Recovery Following Fat Transfer?

Recovery time following fat grafting will depend on several variables, such as how much fat is being transferred and where the harvested fatty tissue is being added.

You will likely experience swelling, which may not let you see your actual results until it subsides. Most clients are able to return to work within a couple of weeks, although some activities may still be limited.

For the best outcome in the shortest time possible, be sure you read and follow any post-procedure instructions Dr. Contogiannis gives you following the procedure.
