Considering liposuction? Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Mary Ann Contogiannis, can help you decide if that’s the best decision to help you achieve the results you want. Dr. Contogiannis provides lipo treatments for men and women in Greensboro, NC, High Point, Burlington, Winston-Salem, and the neighboring communities.
What is Involved in Liposuction?
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure designed to target fat cells in certain areas of the body and destroy them by freezing. The dead cells are then processed naturally by the body in the same way it eliminates all dead cells, eventually flushing them from the body permanently.
Lipo treatments were never intended to be a weight loss treatment or to serve as a substitute for proper diet and exercise as a healthy way to lose weight. The amount of fat allowed to be eliminated by liposuction is limited. While it’s true your weight may go down a few pounds, the actual weight loss will not be significant, as that’s not the main purpose of liposuction.
What Does Liposuction Cost in Greensboro, NC?
Liposuction cost tends to differ between patients, as each case will have different variables to consider. Dr. Contogiannis will thoroughly discuss your specific case during your initial consultation and be able to give you a more accurate amount at that time.
Insurance companies seldom cover the cost of cosmetic surgeries and procedures, so it’s a good idea to check with your insurance provider to find out what, if anything, they will cover for liposuction treatment.
We try to keep patient procedures as affordable as possible. We’re pleased to offer financing as an option for liposuction treatments through Alphaeon® or CareCredit®.
How Does Lipo Work?
Liposuction is considered a surgical procedure, so general anesthesia is necessary and you’ll sleep through the entire surgery. Once asleep, Dr. Contogiannis will insert a thin, hollow tube called a cannula into small incisions near the targeted area.
As the cannula moves through the tissue, it’s literally sucking up fat through the hollow tube, removing it from the body. When all the fat has been removed in that area, the doctor will stitch up the incision if necessary and remove any excess skin.
What Are the Benefits of Liposuction?
Lipo treatments have many benefits, and patients are usually delighted with the results of their liposuction procedure. Some of the more common benefits include:
- Dramatic improvement in self-confidence and self-image
- Improved, natural-looking shape and contour of the body
- Results can be seen immediately and continue to get better over time
- Results can be long-lasting if you maintain a consistent, healthy weight
- Excessive underarm sweating can be reduced and thigh chafing due to excess fat can also be eliminated
Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
Generally speaking, if you’re a healthy adult near your ideal weight, but are still battling stubborn fat in certain areas of the body, liposuction can be a good choice for you. Ideal candidates should have firm muscle tone and sufficient skin elasticity for best results.
Liposuction may not be recommended if you have any condition in your past or current medical history that interferes with the body’s natural healing process.
What Can I Expect During Recovery Following a Lipo Treatment?
You’ll be given post-op instructions and you should follow them closely in order to achieve the best results and the speediest recovery. At the Renaissance Center for Plastic Surgery & Wellness, we will carefully track your recovery through follow-up visits.
Dr. Contogiannis will likely have you moving around very soon after your liposuction. This is to help increase circulation, which helps to support proper healing.
You’ll be able to have any stitches removed within a week or two. There may be some soreness, swelling and bruising, but that will dissipate over the next few weeks. You should be able to fully resume your normal activities, including exercise, after about four weeks.
