Dermabrasion

What is Involved in a Dermabrasion Treatment?

Dermabrasion is an exfoliation technique that removes the outermost layer of skin, allowing new, healthy skin to grow in its place. This treatment can be used to address any discolored or damaged skin that may be affecting the appearance. By precisely exfoliating the affected skin, the healthy skin that lies underneath will be revealed.

At Renaissance Center for Plastic Surgery & Wellness, we often recommend this treatment to residents looking to reduce the appearance of scars. This also includes those looking to diminish acne scars.

Am I A Good Candidate for Dermabrasion?

If you are looking for a way to reduce the appearance of scars or acne scars, you may be a good candidate for dermabrasion. At Renaissance Center for Plastic Surgery & Wellness, we are proud to offer financing for the dermabrasion treatment to make it a more affordable option for those who desire it.

How Does Dermabrasion Work?

During the dermabrasion treatment, a handheld tool is used to precisely exfoliate the desired areas of skin. This may cause some slight discomfort, but most patients find this process to be tolerable. After the desired areas are treated, we will apply a topical solution to hydrate the skin and encourage healing.

What Can I Expect During Recovery Following a Dermabrasion Treatment?

After a dermabrasion session, you may notice some swelling, redness, or sensitivity in the treated area. The skin beneath the treated area will be sensitive to sun and other irritants, so it is important to keep the skin protected for the first few weeks after your treatment. Most symptoms fade after the first week or two, while minor redness may persist for several weeks. However, patients are typically able to resume all normal activities within a week of treatment.

What Results Can I Expect from My Dermabrasion Treatment?

The results from your dermabrasion treatment will become increasingly visible as the skin heals. After several weeks, you will notice the full results of your treatment. In some cases, especially for patients who are receiving treatment for scarring, multiple treatment sessions will be necessary. Dr. Contogiannis will let you know what to expect in terms of your treatment plan during your initial consultation.
