Brow Lift

Due to the development of skin laxity, wrinkles, and puffiness over time, the upper face can sometimes convey negative emotions — such as tiredness, stress, or anger — without your knowledge. Men and women often come to our Greensboro plastic surgeon seeking ways to alleviate an aged or angry appearance and reclaim a brighter, more energetic look. Brow lift surgery, commonly referred to as a “forehead lift,” offers long-term rejuvenation of the brow area to help you look as youthful and alert as you feel. Dr. Mary Ann Contogiannis performs a brow lift as an outpatient procedure to restore support for the brow and smooth upper facial creases caused by loose, excess skin.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure performed to remove or reduce the horizontal lines across the forehead. It’s also utilized to lift drooping tissue in the brow/forehead region and improve the appearance of “frown lines” — deep vertical lines that often appear between the eyebrows and may give your face a perpetually angry look.

What are the Benefits of a Brow Lift?

A brow lift has many benefits, and our patients are typically delighted with their results. Some common benefits include:

  • Elimination of a tired or consistently angry look
  • Short recovery period
  • Opens up the eyes, giving an appearance of greater alertness
  • Results are natural looking
  • Refreshed, younger, and more rejuvenated overall facial appearance

Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?

Chances are, if you’re a healthy adult interested in getting rid of the vertical furrows between your brows, or want to diminish the horizontal lines across your forehead, you’ll be a great candidate for brow lift surgery.

It’s important that you’re not currently experiencing any medical issues that could interfere with the natural healing process of the body.

Dr. Contogiannis will help you align your expectations with what’s attainable and realistic for your specific circumstances so you’ll be delighted with your results.

How is the Brow Lift Procedure Performed?

Dr. Contogiannis performs brow lift surgery in our accredited outpatient center, using general anesthesia for your safety and comfort. An inconspicuous incision is made along the hairline and the brow skin is tightened.

She also removes any excess tissue that could cause the skin to droop. This diminishes or eliminates the lines and wrinkles on the forehead, leaving the brow area smoother and tighter. When it’s necessary or desired, brow lifts can also be performed in conjunction with other facial surgeries, such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) or a neck lift.

What Can I Expect During Recovery Following a Brow Lift?

You may have your forehead taped or loosely wrapped to keep swelling and bruising to a minimum. You may also have a thin tube put in place to drain any fluids or blood that might collect beneath the skin.
Within about two weeks, you should be able to resume your normal activities with hardly anyone being able to tell you had any work done. Healing will continue over a few months, during which time the scars will begin to diminish and ultimately fade away.

How Much Does a Brow Lift Cost?

Brow lift costs may vary between patients depending on the scope of the procedure, as well as other variables.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Contogiannis will thoroughly discuss your specific case and should be able to give you a more accurate cost assessment and breakdown at that time. Most cosmetic surgeries are not covered by insurance, so it’s best to contact your provider to find out which procedures they will or will not provide coverage for.

In an effort to keep patient procedures as affordable as possible for our clients, we offer financing as an option for your brow lift surgery through Alphaeon® or CareCredit®.

Can I Get a Non-Surgical BOTOX® Brow Lift?

As a surgical procedure, a brow lift can provide improvements and long-term rejuvenation that minimally invasive treatments cannot achieve. While no non-surgical technique can replicate the same quality of results achieved with a forehead lift, gaining a more refreshed look is still possible without surgery or invasiveness. BOTOX® or Dysport® injections are typically among the most common medical spa options for men and women who want to soften horizontal lines, vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows (frown lines or “eleven” wrinkles), and crow’s feet. As the more popular choice, BOTOX® is an injectable neurotoxin that can relax overactive facial muscles causing wrinkling to develop. After injections, the muscles responsible for repetitive facial movements are temporarily paralyzed, smoothing the skin and providing a more youthful look.

Completed within 15 to 30 minutes, BOTOX® injections can be a convenient and efficient way to improve mild signs of aging without surgery or recovery. However, it’s important to remember that there are many limitations with BOTOX®, including:

  • Cannot restore support for weakened underlying musculature in the brow
  • Cannot lift drooping tissue
  • Will not remove or reposition loose, excess skin
  • Effects of injections only last two to four months
  • Touch-up sessions are required to preserve results

While BOTOX® can be ideal in refreshing your appearance on a temporary basis or before a special occasion, the results do not rival the outcome of a brow lift. Dr. Contogiannis can speak with you more about the best treatment option(s) for your needs and preferences in person. She will fully explain the limitations and benefits of a brow lift and/or BOTOX® so you can make an informed decision about your care.
